Thanksgiving

We very seriously considered getting a puppy this week. Which is crazy. Laura dying her hair red and getting a pet all in one week? Check her into the institute!

Is it adorable? Of course. Did I love its blue eyes and wrinkly little face? Yep. But I know that no matter how helpful my girls say they will be, this dog will be all mine once it pees, pukes or chews up something. Or needs a walk in the dead of winter.
We went back and forth so many times this weekend that we ended up flipping a coin. We called best 2 out of 3 and...there will be no pup. We didn't mention anything about it to the girls so at least we don't have to deal with the emotional fallout of that :)
Anyway. the newly minted blog is (almost) up and running. I wish I some sort of background in webbing (which is my new phrase to describe any kind of website development) so that I could work out some kinks. Thanks for sticking with me even with my lack of webbing skills.
I hope all of you have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Eat some turkey and pet a puppy, okay?

Thankful Tree

I love having a thankful tree in our house. It's not fancy, just a couple twigs from a tree, but it's a great visual for the kids (and for me) of all the things we're thankful for. I love seeing what they write down.

Some of their cards crack me up.

The girls also wrote down names of friends & teachers they're thankful for.

Sage had a sleepover here this weekend and was excited to show her friends our thankful tree. They wrote on their cards and hung them on our tree too. Our tree is overloaded and we need a new batch of cards to write on. I used this template.

I highly recommend this little project, even if you don't have kiddos at home. It's good to be mindful of what we're thankful for.

Friday High Five

1. I've been wanting a bike for years and this idea may speed up the process.

The Last Hurrah. Probably.

So, we've basically rocked fall this year. Pumpkin patch, been there. Hay ride, done that. Trick or treat, carving pumpkins, hot cocoa, pumpkin festival, boom. Done.

But we hadn't tackled the quintessential fall activity...jumping in the leaf pile.

It doesn't sound like a big deal to get some leaves together, but there's no actual trees in our yard. We have about twenty leaves from our neighbor's house that blew over the fence, which hardly constitutes a respectable pile.

I got a phone call from our neighbor last week that he had just raked a giant leaf pile in his front yard and could I bring the girls over? Um, yes.

But Marielle wasn't sure if she was feeling the leaf pile.

Probably because her sisters kept throwing leaves directly into her face.

We jumped and played for awhile and then our neighbor invited us in for hot cocoa and popcorn and then we were back at it.

I know the snow and bitter cold is coming, so I am so glad we were able to get this bit of fun in before we go into winter lockdown.

I am so thankful for generous neighbors and cheap fun!

Daughter Date

It's been very busy around here lately and it's been difficult to have special one-on-one time with the kiddos. In the past, Greg & I have taken the girls on dates but it's fallen by the wayside as our schedules have gotten busier. Perhaps that fourth child tipped us over the edge....?

This weekend, I took Genevieve out on a date. She wanted me to surprise her, so I took her to one of my favorite little spots, La Reve.

It's a French cafe, which scored big points on the fancy scale for Genevieve. Plus, their pastries are gorgeous!

We ordered a chocolate croissant and beignet, coffee and hot cocoa.

We talked about school, her friends, what she wants to be when she grows up (a dolphin trainer). She's growing up so fast. I had such a great time with her and hope we can keep working in these little dates with the girls into our weekends.

Just love this kid.

Weekend in Chicago (As Told Through Grainy & Blurred Photos)!

Ok guys. Here I am trying to take this blog thing seriously and all I have to show for my efforts is very grainy & blurred iPhone pics of an incredible weekend. Mostly I will blame Greg for this, as I put him in charge of most photo ops, which he saw as an opportunity to take out of focus and headless photos of me.

But I digress. And next time I shall come prepared with an actual camera designed for taking good photos.

Anyway, we were in Chicago for the Emmys this weekend. Greg was nominated for an Emmy this year and we had a wonderful time visiting one of my favorite cities. Oh, Chicago...how I love your food.

We took the train down and it was my first time ever on a train (minus the kiddie train at the zoo).

I wasn't sure what to wear but ended up donning a dress made out of wetsuit fabric. Weird in theory, but the dress was very cool on. I even rocked some red lipstick! Oh Laura, getting fancy.

Here begins the headless and blurry series of Laura photos, thanks to Greg (obviously he was not nominated for director of photography). But believe me, the dress was super cool.

Although he did not take home the golden statue, we dined and hung out with some pretty fabulous people.

Even Obama showed up. He probably heard about my blog or something and wanted to make a cameo...

...or someone who looks like him anyway.

And Greg looked so handsome and I will forgive him for his lack of photography skills.

The next morning we had breakfast at Brunch, which wasn't far from the hotel and had good recommendations.

They have classic breakfast with a couple interesting twists. The service was meh but the atmosphere was very cool.

We didn't have much time to hang out after breakfast so we walked around for a bit before heading back to catch the train. But seriously. What a great date weekend.
