We wanted to have a laundry room. play space, family room and space to store The Stuff. Currently, my "laundry room" exists on one side of the basement but my laundry chute is on the other side of the basement.
So that's how I am dealing with the giant cube. We divided the rest of the space into two hemispheres and placed the family room on the side with the fireplace.
Hi Laura. I like your plans! It seems like keeping the ceiling/pipes exposed is definitely the best bet. Are you going to leave it all mostly as-is, or are you going to paint? If so, what color and how?
ReplyDeleteHi Isral, I am going to leave the ceiling exposed because it's so low already. I've seen a lot of exposed ceilings painted black, but black seems to make the basement feel a lot darker, so I've decided to paint it a shade of white/gray (although I haven't quite chosen the exact color yet). I am going to spray it with paint, but not sure how many coats it will need to get coverage. Stay tuned because the basement project begins soon!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I was wondering about that, too. Dark colors for ceilings rarely seem to work out well. Spraying it seems like the best bet, though I'm realizing I don't know anything about spray painting aside from the aerosol type. Am I correct in assuming there's some method that's more useful and economical at a larger scale?
ReplyDeleteThere are paint sprayers out there, which can be quite costly. In some places, perhaps even Home Depot, you can rent one for an hourly rate. You'd be able to cover large areas quickly, but you have to do thorough prep work for all the overspray. Also clean up of the sprayer afterward can be time consuming, but the amount of work depends on the kind of sprayer you have. Send me photos of your process & good luck!
